Kim Myles caught the style bug at the age of twelve, thanks to a copy of Architectural Digest.
"I remember my jaw dropping. Growing up in the suburbs, I just had no idea that homes could look like that!" laughs Kim. Add
Vogue to the mix, and her love and appreciation of design and glamour was sealed. "I knew which day they'd put out the new issue at my local drugstore, and I'd wait like a groupie." Adulthood brought a move to New York City, and a thriving career as a hair and makeup artist. While her business took off, she began exploring her other love - interior design - as a hobby. "I don't believe in creative monogamy! Visual expression is how you show the world who your are, whether it's your home or your hair." In 2007, she competed on and won HGTV's Design Star, and became the first black woman to have her own eponymous show on the network. "'Myles of Style' perfectly captures my sensibility", she says. "I believe that we all deserve to live in beauty, and beauty can't be narrowly defined. Our homes should represent our individuality and flair, not a catalog layout." Kim's distinctive style and expertise have garnered her numerous engagements as resident design guru for clients like Lowe's.com and Essence.com, as well as multiple appearances on The Today Show. Kim has been featured in national publications such as
InStyle, People, Essence, Redbook, Family Circle, and
Home, and is the host of the HGTV series 'Holiday Battle on the Block', coming this Christmas. "I'm so incredibly grateful for the opportunities that I've had, and I do have a lot of 'pinch me' moments. The vision I have for my own life is coming to fruition, and I'm able to do what I love every day…I think that's the definition of blessed."
