I’ve got tissue paper pom pom’s on the brain.

They’re cheap and easy, and I’m feeling them as everyday decor. They’re fluffy balls of happiness.

Hanging Poms-Poms
1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1.5 inch wide accordian folds, creasing with each fold.
2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.
3. Seperate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.
4. Tie a length of monofilament to floral wire for hanging.

I imagine this room with glossy cinnamon-hued walls. Very modern and clean, but still warm thanks to texture, color and pale wood.

From Scratch

Today I’m introducing what will become a regular feature, a room ‘from scratch’ mood board. The goal will be to assemble a room using resources that anyone with a computer has access to, and to keep the price of the room affordable. It’s my hope that you guys will see just how easy it is to pull together a basic room using ‘off the rack’ items, without creating a soul-less environment.

Presenting: “Modern Princess”

Wallpaper: Metallic, modern, interesting without taking over.

Sofa: Classic, clean, and inexpensive.

West Elm

Rug: Super fun, but still grown-up thanks to the soft hues.

Coffee table: Pale, modern, simple (the glass topper is a must for shine).

Ikea

Jewelry: Glam, slightly retro/textural with a jolt of color.

The key to this design is the dominance of grey (sophisticated), soft texture and pattern, and a balance of modern and classic. What do you think?
