Make A Wish
One of the dreams that I had about working in television was that I’d get to experience all of the glitter and glamour of Tinseltown. And I have - I’ve attended a Women in Film Oscar Luncheon, served on a discussion panel with Magic Johnson, met some of my superstar idols, and traveled across this great country – all while doing what I love! Needless to say, my wish has more than come true. And I truly didn’t think it could get any better – until I was asked to grant someone else’s wish.
The Make A Wish Foundation contacted me about a beautiful, vibrant, 13 year old girl named Claire. Claire suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, and her wish is to have me come to her home and re-decorate the bedroom that she and her younger sister share. She wants a bedroom that reflects who she is: a glamour-puss, ocean loving, Mermaid-dreaming girl. So I am charged with creating a space that will transport her to the seaside; a place that she doesn’t get to visit due to her illness.
I have to tell you all that this is a HUGE honor for me – easily the biggest of my life. No amount of fancy parties or hobnobbing could even come close to the pleasure of this experience, and it’s shown me the real benefit of being on TV: having the opportunity to share my talent in a way that touches the life of another person – a total stranger – and makes their experience on this planet a little bit more beautiful. That is what is real, the true gift…the rest is just icing.
I’m heading to her house this a.m. to install her room along with a team of fabulous volunteers, so here’s a peek at what Claire’s been working with:
My goal: turn this space into a light, bright, girlie and glamourous seaside cottage – Check back this Thursday to see pictures of Claire in her new bedroom!
